Fleurs du Jour

The zinnias are still thriving, thanks to daily watering. Just for variety: this week's vases are a big coffee mug and an iced tea glass. And now you see one of my secrets to long-lasting arrangements: put the cut flowers directly into ICE WATER. Yowzah! They like a little shock. If there's room, put it in the fridge for 4-6 hours after cutting. And of course, change water daily, recut stems every 2-3 days. They will last and last.

I love cut flowers from the garden. I once dated a guy who would do anything for me and about 4 months into dating I requested some cut flowers. I was having a bad day all around and needed a little cheer. "But, you told me you didn't like cut flowers," he said. "Yes," I said, "But now that I know you really like me, asking for flowers seems so much less high maintenance. I told you I didn't like flowers because it seemed so girly." So then I got flowers a lot when he was out of town.

Hi Aunt Crankypants. I come to your blog by way of PeskyApostrophe. I'll be checking in to see how you're doing; you don't know me from Adam, so I don't know what you would care, but I'm now hooked on the narrative that you're spinning here, and I don't want it to end.

Kick cancer's ass, eh?

Why is it flowers are so much nicer when you don't have to ask for them? I don't know... it's a good reason to grow 'em, I guess.

Welcome to all PeskyA's readers - I'm a big fan :)
