She's a woman, she's a mother of 5, she's young, she's smart. There's a lot to recommend Ms. Palin, or at least warrant further interest. Rather than listening to the pundits and talking heads endlessly analyze McCain's choice, how about hearing from the people of Alaska, or even one person from Alaska?
There is no doubt in my mind that many Alaskans are feeling pretty excited about this. But we live in our own little bubble up here, and most of the attention we get is because of The Bridge to Nowhere, polar bears, the indictment of Ted Stevens, and the ongoing investigation and conviction of the string of legislators and oil executives who literally called themselves “The Corrupt Bastards Club”.I also saw Ms. Palin described thusly:
beauty contest winner
creationist who wants to force teaching it in the schools
fights for Big Oil over polar bears
anti choice
uses elected position for personal vendetta against male relative
filthy rich
five young children being raised by whom? nannies?I consider myself a feminist. I cannot relate to this woman.
Well, I'll go along with the other six concerns, but I don't think the first issue, "beauty contest winner," is relevant. Doesn't make her any more or less qualified. And frankly, The Beautiful will be the first to tell you that they suffer terrible discrimination and even harassment, and the rest of us just don't understand, or we would be more compassionate. In fact, my pal Joyce often points out -- as we are circling to find a parking place -- "There are those who consider great beauty a handicap..."
I don't know if Ms. Palin is a big bag o' BS or not. I'll give her points for at least shaking things up. I do think the choices for VP from both parties has probably never been as important as it is now, and I think we should all look very closely at her record and at Joe Biden's. I wish us all peace, and prudent decision-making.
Epilogue: see "Glued to the Set."
As usual, my friend at PeskyApostrophe has an interesting, reasoned, researched opinion to offer.

Here are the facts on why Palin fired the troopers boss for not firing Him
He threatened to kill a member of the governors family when she was a mayor. He violated restraining orders., (for which the right to own a weapon is generally surrendered) He drove a state DPS vehicle impaired enough that a fellow officer made him pull over, and then, gave him a ride home, again avoiding the legal consequences that apply to you or I, or anybody else who broke drinking and driving rules.. He used an issued weapon on a minor child. A weapon that has killed unexpectedly in the past, due to unknown medical conditions of the person on the receiving end. This immaturity and disregard for laws that apply to us all, and for which you or I would pay dearly, has gone unchallenged, because of strong union and political protection. It seems that the administration had justifiable reasons to inquire, as to why this officer wasn`t fired.. and what mechanism is preventing justice from being applied to state troopers that would be applied unflinchingly to you or I. A union can be a good thing when unfairness and nepotism and favoritism pervades an industry or workplace. But it becomes a devisive special interest, fighting all criticisms, when it is found to harbor law violators.. as is evident in this case. This is a politically motivated response by the governors enemies to her overwhelming mandate to clean up the corruption in this state, and take a stand against an industry thet has led Alaska closer to becoming a vassal state instead of an owner state. Follow the money as high as it goes, and you will find those leading the hue and cry against this popularly elected governor. Money buys media time. Hitler held power because he repeated a lie so often that people beleived it. Certain media neocons have become nothing but mouthpieces for those interests alligned against this very good and devoted governor. It is part of the job of an administration to inquire, when the justice system appears to have obviously broken down, as to why and how,.. and what it takes to repair it. These forces can and do resist any efforts to delve into cronyism and favoritism when it comes to applying the law equally and fairly. The state troopers are not above the law. I want to know why he wasn`t fired too. I want to know why laws don`t apply to state troopers, that are
